International Day of Forests at the chipmill corner
Monday 21st March is the International Day of Forests and local conservationists will be marking the day by holding a protest vigil and truck count at the Edrom road turn off to the Eden woodchip mill.
The truck count is a regular event generally co-ordinated by Chipstop ..
This time we are sponsored by Chipstop and the South East Region Conservation Alliance (SERCA), says SERCA Deputy Convenor, Harriett Swift.
We gather useful information from these events about levels of activity in the industry, the type of trees being felled and where trucks are coming from.
Our observations on Edrom road will be complemented by counts at other points in the region.
Ms Swift said that since the change of ownership of South East Fibre Exports there are still many unanswered questions. We are hoping that our observations on Monday will give us a better understanding of what is going on.
There will be International Day of Forests actions in Sydney and on the north coast; SERCA members will also take part in the Sydney protest actions. Ms Swift said.
