So Blueridge sawmill operator Allan Richards doesn’t want to end native forest logging (Magnet 15/10/15). My response: he would say that, wouldn't he? Mr Richards’ sawmill got roughly $6m from taxpayers to act as window dressing for the woodchipping industry. You can't maintain the myth that woodchipping is a by-product of sawmilling unless you have at least one sawmill. Eden now has only one, Blueridge. Without massive subsidies like this the industry would have disappeared years ago.
